Fairy Tales by Hans Andersen. one original watercolor by rackham, 12 color plates with lettered tissue guards, 59 black-and-white plates and illustrations in the text, and endpapers printed in peach and white silhouette design. 4to, green morocco stamped with gold jesters in corners of both covers, multiple gilt borders along edges, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, spine completely faded (to a light mauve) and lightly spotted; top edges trimmed and gilt, silk bookmarker present; publisher's board slipcase with printed label (indicating limited edition). rare, special copy number 9 of only 9 signed by and created with an original watercolor by rackham, titled "An old Wife's Tale,"signed, and dated by him, lower margin. While the full limited edition was 525 (500 for sale), a penned note on the colophon by the publisher states: "This Edition which contains an original drawing by the Artist is limited to Nine Copies of which eight are for sale." A charming and colorful full-page drawing which measures 190x153 mm; 7 1/2x6 inches (including signature). Rackham's smallest limited editions with watercolors are extremely scarce on the market.
